Free Shaping Camp

All levels, from the novice free shaper to the not so novice free shaper, this camp is for you!

Remember the old "hot and cold" game we played as kids? Well, shaping is similar except we leave off the "cold" portion. While many behaviors can most certainly be lured, shaping tends to create a dog that *thinks* rather than just one who reacts to your lure. And that thinking produces a wonderful drive for training. Of course, there are some behaviors that can't be lured and for that you need shaping!

Shaping teaches you how to truly break down behaviors into the smallest of approximations, how to recognize them when you see them, when to start a session, stop a session, when to raise or lower your criteria. Shaping enhances the dog/owner relationship.

From agility to rally to competition obedience to musical freestyle to tricks to animal husbandry, shaping will increase your creativity, timing and sensitivity will increase.

Thank you Pam... I had a great time. Miss T and I have work to do if we are going to make it to the Advanced! —Beth

Thanks for hosting the workshop. The things we learned can be applied to our regular training as well. It answered my questions & We had fun. It's so nice to spend a day with such upbeat positive people!!! —Sincerely, Kit

I have to say - I had a blast at the Dog acting workshop with Peg Munves today!! I thought Peg was a wonderful teacher, with many great stories to tell too, and hard working Jazz gave us many amazing demos. The day just passed like time did not exist at all- the dogs enjoyed it so much that the active dogs were worn out, and the reactive dogs were too focused to be bothered with anyone. We learned about the industry, worked the dogs, practiced having photos done, learned new approaches to things, and met great people and great dogs. I would highly recommend it, even if you don't feel interested in "acting," it was a super connection with your dog day. I have many things to work on after that. Thanks to Peg for a wonderful seminar and Pam for arranging it and the wonderful dogs for working so hard!!!!!!!! —Lesley

Pam – Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed Peg’s Acting Seminar this past Sunday (03/29). Not only did we learn a lot about the ‘advertising’’ biz, but we also picked up some really great training tips too. Peg was a great speaker and her engagement of the participants in the program really added to the overall success of the day. Many of the 20 or so participants and their fantastic dogs had some previous experience with commercials or photo shoots and were willing to share their knowledge with the group. Peg was able to draw from their experience and incorporate that information into her presentation with ease. Great ‘hands on’ activities and training exercises. The mock ‘photo shoot’ was super. It really gave those of us without any real ‘show’ experience an appreciation of what the business is like. We signed up for the 2nd class even though we probably won’t get into the ‘business’. Any activity that strengthens the handler/dog bond is valuable. —Sandy, Susie and ‘Lily’

Had a wonderful day at Peg\'s Acting Workshop. I was especially impressed with the way the handlers were connecting with their dogs and the dogs were able to stay focused even though there were other dogs working around them. Thanks Peg for sharing your knowledge and experience. Thanks Pam for hosting the workshop. —Kathi G.

Thanks again for a great day! I was shocked at how well Ama did. I knew she was a clever dog, but I never realized how capable she was of improvisational learning. Almost a year ago now, I thought it might be fun to do acting classes with my pups, but couldn't find anything. That's actually how I found Pam. I dropped in on her tricks class and was impressed with the results of her freeshaping techniques. Your workshop however was exactly the type of thing I've been looking for. Looking forward to your level 2 workshop in the near future. —Toshi
